Rich has another great article on Calculating Identity: Career Distinction

I ran two people through it. The first was me, in real life. A few years ago I had about 38K google results for my real name and they were mostly about me. I'm somewhat of an expert in my field and have written several articles. But for the last few years I've been stuck in the bowels of a megacorp and have done nothing for my digital identify. So IRL, I get a 6.

Enter Boondoggie. Boondoggie scores a whopping 9 on the scale. So my online persona is more digitally relevant than who I am in real life. I think I'm having an existential breakdown.

Hey Doggie,

Glad you enjoyed the post. Like so many people, it seems you have forgone your personal brand in favor of your company. There's nothing wrong with that. I expect you could get it back anytime you want.

In the interim, it seems you have an excellent pseudo brand. And there is nothing wrong with that unless your real name is John Mackey. j/k

Find The Boots

An executive goes on a business trip. When he arrives, it's raining cats and dogs. To avoid ruining his shoes, he purchases a pair of galoshes for $15, which he expenses under "Misc." on his expense report. A week later, the accounting department rejects his expense report, with a post-it note that says that the company does not reimburse for items of clothing. The next trip, the executive turns in an expense report without the galoshes, but with a post-it note that says "FIND THE BOOTS!".
