Home Depot Fires Employees for Catching Shoplifters

Koco.com has this story:
And you're angry at the wrong people. This company put this policy into place to protect themselves from lawsuits from shoplifters detained by employees. They figure it's less expensive to just lose a few chainsaws than to risk a huge award from a lawsuit.
So be angry at ambulance chasers like John Edwards, who got rich by forcing companies to do stupid things like this and now want to make sure that you don't get rich, because we all know, there are two Americas. His and ours. And you're not paying enough taxes!
A former Home Depot employee said the company fired him and three other workers because they helped police catch several suspected shoplifters in May.... An internal memo from Home Depot outlines that associates cannot accuse, detain, chase or call the police on any customer for shoplifting...I think everyone's first response is to be angry and Home Depot for this policy.

I'd like to think they're also trying to protect employees from getting hurt by thugs.
Who wants to get hit with a hammer by a guy who'll spend less time in the system than you will in the waiting room behind 1,000 illegal aliens?
